NOTE FROM PASTOR J R FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 11, 2023
This Sunday is the 2nd Sunday After Pentecost, but it is also the Sunday of PrideFest here in Central AL. Last Sunday was Trinity Sunday and because of the assigned scriptures, I didn’t spend any time on Trinity. In a meditation this week, Richard Rohr gave a “fresh eyes perspective” on the Trinity that I found most helpful.
He called it “Living in the Flow,” saying it must be done experientially and contemplative; that only experiencing the flow of the Trinity in our lives on different levels will enable us to understand it. He says we will grasp it if we are NOT seeking to understand it all, but rather simply “standing under” a waterfall of infinite and loving flow. He says if the Trinitarian life (one that works in perfect harmony among “Creator, Christ, & Holy Spirit) flows between us and the Divine, then every aspect of our lives will be something that we can allow, enjoy and steward on earth as we are being guided by and participating in this great mystery.
Rohr makes clear our “YES” is crucial to experiencing this “living in the flow,” as God does not operate uninvited or undesired. But by saying yes, we can live out this Trinitarian mystery of harmony in our own lives. The natural results Rohr says is we gladly pay it forward. That’s how the divine generosity at the center of it all works.
So, Rohr encourages us to “trust love, trust communion, trust vulnerability to the Spirit and trust mutuality (in our relationship with God and others.) Always seek to be in relationship with the Divine and others, find little ways to serve others, to serve others who are sick or poor, marginalized and those who cannot pay anything back. Don’t try to work this out too much with your head. Just trust the flow of the most natural, dynamic, and positive energy that’s already flowing through you. It will always feel Like Love.”
Join us for worship at Covenant this Sunday of Pridefest, in-person, on Zoom or Facebook Livestream. The sermon “Having Faith like Abraham, That’s Something to Take Pride In” based on “Romans 4:13-25,” will help us with “Living in the Flow.”
