This Sunday is the “Thirteenth Sunday of Kingdomtide.” The following Sunday before Thanksgiving this year is “The Reign of Christ Sunday,” It’s also known as (Christ the King Sunday), and it’s the last Sunday on the liturgical church calendar. This latter part of November is also recognized as A Season of Thanksgiving. The assigned scripture from Isaiah 12 this week seem to bear witness to this but with an interesting twist of hope, assurance and joy for the future.
This week I clicked on and read an article that was titled, “19 Benefits Seniors Did Not Know They Could Get.” (Of course, I was only reading it for a friend.) The article listed amazing deals, savings, discounts and even free stuff available to seniors if only they knew about them and took advantage of them.
As I read the article, I thought of the assigned text I had read earlier this week for this coming Sunday. I thought how the premise of the article was also true for us as Christians. There are all kinds of benefits available to us as people of faith that we don’t experience because we either don’t know about them or we don’t take advantage of them. Isaiah 12:2-3 says “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and my might. God has become my salvation. With joy you will draw from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day; Give thanks to the Lord.”
What benefits you are denying yourself because you are not drawing from the well of God’s salvation? In this Season of Thanksgiving; let’s be grateful and thankful for all God has done for us; but let’s also learn of and use the benefits that are ours “When God is our Salvation.”
Start this Sunday by joining us in worship at Covenant. My sermon will be “When God is My Salvation” based on Isaiah 12.
