“KNOW WHAT YOU ARE HUNGRY FOR …”

NOTE FROM PASTOR J R FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 2024

This Sunday will be the Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost and the first Sunday in August. It is also the second Sunday in which the assigned Gospel text coming from the lectionary features some aspect of Jesus’ “I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE,” sermon.
The first set of assigned scriptures from this sermon features John’s account of Jesus feeding a huge multitude. In the second part assigned for this Sunday, we learn of the events that happened immediately after that miracle. In them, Jesus encourages us to be more diligent in seeking to satisfy our spiritual and inner hunger than our physical hunger.
We all know what it’s like to have a physical hunger for something and yet you can’t quite figure out what will satisfy it. Whether we are aware of it or not, we all have a spiritual hunger too, that is built into us; and many of us can’t quite figure out how or what will satisfy that hunger.
In the assigned text for this Sunday from John 6, Jesus helps us to know what we spiritually hunger for and how to satisfy that hunger.
So, join us for worship at Covenant this Sunday either in-person, by Zoom, Facebook Livestream or YouTube. My sermon will focus on what Jesus shared that tells us to “Know What You Hunger For …” based on “John 6:24-35.”
