NOTE FROM PASTOR J R FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2019

The third Sunday in October is when Covenant has its annual congregational meeting following morning worship and dinner. The budget we pass and the leaders we elect have spiritual significance. They are expected to help us make our vision a reality and fulfill the mission we have cast.

While methods and approaches must change from time to time, our vision and mission remains constant. Our vision continues “To be an inclusive community of faith – Offering Hope + Showing Faithfulness + Sharing Joy.” Our mission remains: “We exist to: Celebrating the love of God, Cultivate a relationship with God, Care about one another in Christ and Communicate Christ to all people.”

In response, our stewardship theme this year asks, “What Shall We Bring?” It’s a question that challenges us to pray and make a commitment to ensure we move toward making Covenant’s vision a reality and Covenant’s mission fulfilled.

It’s human nature that we prefer to hear affirmations of God love, forgiveness and acceptance without being challenged with a question of commitment that asks, “What Shall We Bring?” However, in the assigned Epistle text for this Sunday, the Apostle Paul gives instructions to his protégé, Timothy, which are useful for us in responding to the question “What Shall We Bring?” He says to Timothy, “Preach the word” and “Carry out your service fully.”

Join us this Sunday for worship. My sermon will be “Preach the Word and Fulfill Your Ministry” based on II Timothy 3:14, 16-17 & 4:1-5. Then, join us for dinner immediately after morning worship and the Congregational Meeting, especially our Covenant Members.
