“YOU KNOW IT’S A BAD DAY WHEN …” OR “WISDOM WHEN FACING YOUR PEROSNAL GIANTS!”

NOTE FROM PASTOR J R FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 23, 2024

This Sunday will be the 5th Sunday after Pentecost and the 4th Sunday of Pride Month for Central Alabama.  This past Wednesday was Juneteenth, the newest of the 11 U S recognized federal holidays.
All of us are familiar with “You know it’s going to be a bad day, when…” jokes.   Here’s a couple of my favorites I’ve recently heard.  (1) “You know it’s going to be a bad day, when you go to buy a homeless man lunch at McDonalds and your debit card is declined; and he says to you, ‘that’s okay.  Come sit with me, somebody will come through for us.’”  Or “You know it’s going to be a bad day, when you go to the ATM to take out some cash, and it prints out coupons for ramen noodles.”
Such jokes are funny, but we all know what it’s like to have a bad day.  And, we all have to face a giant at some point in our lives.  The assigned texts this Sunday includes the very colorful story of David and the giant Goliath.  It’s the story of when the Israelites were having a very bad day.  We can learn wisdom from David in this story that will equip us and prepare us for that hard moment when we have to face a giant.
Join us in worship this Sunday at Covenant either in-person, by Zoom, Facebook Livestream or YouTube.  My sermon will be “You Know It’s a Bad Day, When, …” OR “Wisdom When Facing Your Personal Giant!” based on excerpts from I Samuel 17.
