WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE A NOBODY, GOING NOWHERE

NOTE FROM PASTOR J R FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, 2024

This Sunday will be the “Second Sunday after The Epiphany;” and of course, is also the second Sunday of the New Year, 2024.

Last week’s assigned scripture from Isaiah 60:1 inspired the sermon titled “Arise! Shine! For Your Light has Come for 2024.”  This week’s assigned scripture from Psalms 139 begins with verse 1 saying, “O Lord, You have searched me and known me.” It ends with David saying in verse 18, “I come to the end — I am still with You.”  The sermon title inspired by this passage is “When You Feel Like a Nobody, Going Nowhere.”  The Psalm 139 text and this sermon title seem to be a bit morbid coming on the Sunday behind “Arise! Shine! For Your Light Has come for 2024.”  That is until you read more of Psalms 139 and discover the text is a tremendously encouraging, reassuring truth about who we are in God’s eyes and who God is toward us, all of our lives.

Studies show that most New Year’s resolutions have been broken or simply cast aside by the middle of January.  Likewise, many of the high aspirations we had for ourselves going into a new year have also begun to wane by the middle of the first month of the year. Thankfully, this word from Psalm 139 comes as assurance and comfort of God’s presence and God’s will and purpose for our lives even when our high expectations have waned at any time in our journey of life.

So, join us for worship this Sunday, in-person, if possible, but you can also join us by Zoom, Facebook Livestream, and YouTube.  Join us as “Psalms 139:1-6 & 13-18” speaks encouragement, comfort, and assurance to each of us, especially for those times, as my sermon title says, “When You Feel Like a Nobody, Going Nowhere.”
