This Sunday is the 7th Sunday of Kingdomtide. We continue with our theme for this liturgical season this year of seeking ways to make “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Today is also “World Communion Sunday” which is a celebration observed by several Christian denominations, taking place on the first Sunday of every October. This Sunday was designated to promote Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation as the Body of Christ witness to the world, in word and deed, the love, forgiveness, and grace of God though our words and deeds. Oh, that the Christian Church would be a more effective witness practicing these things in our world right now!
Also, since this is the Month of our Annual Congregational Meeting, during the month of October, I will be doing a 4-Part sermon series looking our 2020 Kingdomtide theme considering Covenant’s mission statement. Our statement is: “We exist to:
Celebrate the love of God,
Cultivate a relationship with God,
Care about one another in Christ,
Communicate Christ to all people.”
If you look carefully at the 4 parts of our mission statement, you will notice that the first two parts prepare us as individuals and a congregation to perform the 2 parts. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that thinking outside the box with fresh eyes are required to be effective witnesses fulfilling our mission. In this sermon series, I will use the lectionary assigned scriptures as the Biblical text for this sermon series.
So, join us this Sunday at 11:30 AM by Zoom or Facebook livestream. I will begin looking at our Mission Statement using the 10 commandments as Paul says in Philippians 3:14, “…to press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.”
My sermon in this first part will be “THE MISSION IS TO CELEBRATE THE LOVE OF GOD.” It is based on Exodus 20 (selected verses) and Philippians 3:12-14.
