THE WAYS OF STEADFAST LOVE: PART 6 – ‘41 YEARS OF OFFERING HOPE + SHOWING FAITHFULNESS + SHARING JOY’

NOTE FROM PASTOR JR FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2022

This Sunday is the 7th Sunday after the Epiphany.  It is also the Sunday we traditionally celebrate the founding of Covenant 41 years ago.  Our anniversary observance this year is limited to recognizing it as part of the sermon as we just limitedly returned to in-person worship following the latest COVID surge.

In the sermon as Part 6 of my “The Ways of Steadfast Love,” series, we will look at Covenant’s vision of reflecting the steadfast love of God in our vision, mission and ministry these last 41 years, but doing so also for the future.

The words below of Steve Green’s song, “Find Us Faithful,” was written based on Hebrews 12:1-2, which is not one of the assigned passages for this week.  Nonetheless, the words of this song they aptly express the legacy Covenant hopes provided these last 41 years and hope to continue to provide.

We are pilgrims on the journey of the narrow road,

And those who’ve gone before us line the way.

Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the wear,

Their lives a stirring testament to God’s sustaining grace.

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us run the race not only for the prize, but as those who’ve gone before us. Let us leave to those behind us,the heritage of faithfulness passed on thru godly lives.

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone, and our (loved ones) sift thru all we’ve left behind, may the clues that they discover, and the memories they uncover, become the light that leads them, to the road we each must find.

O may all who come behind us find us faithful, may the fire of our devotion light their way.may the footprints that we leave, lead them to believe, and the lives we live inspire them to obey.o may all who come behind us find us faithful.

Join us for in-person, by Zoom or Facebook Livestream, for our 41st Anniversary Worship service this Sunday.  My sermon is “41 Years of Offering Hope + Showing Faithfulness + Sharing Joy,” using the assigned lectionary text of Luke 6:27-38.
